Anderson/Abruzzo Albuquerque Balloon Museum • Arctic Air

The Anderson/ Abruzzo Albuquerque Balloon Museum was created to explore the history, science, and technology of ballooning and lighter-than-air aviation. Since it opened in 2005, the Museum has welcomed nearly one million visitors from Albuquerque and many other communities in New Mexico, as well as from across the country and around the world.

Arctic Air tells the story of Swedish explorer S. A. Andrée’s attempt to fly a balloon to the North Pole. The exhibit, opened in 2016 as part of the Museum’s ten year anniversary celebration, explores the technologies developed for the expedition, the flight and eventual crash of the balloon, and the fate of the three member crew.
